Detent Hinges Reduce Costs by Eliminating the Need for Catch and Other Parts

HG-MPS2

The hinge was installed on the filling machine's protective cover to prevent contact with the hot machine parts. This hinge's temporary holding function was utilized to reduce the number of parts and lower costs, as shown in the following example.

PROBLEM

Key Issues

  1. The opening and closing of the cover required catches, and two magnetic catches were added in addition to the hinges, resulting in increased parts and troublesome installation.
  2. The number of parts needs to be reduced in order to reduce management costs.

SOLUTION

The Solution

  1. Utilizing only detent hinges reduced the required parts, resulting in a simplified installation process requiring less time and effort.
  2. Costs were decreased by reducing the number of parts to be managed.

The detent hinge serves dual purposes through its click motion mechanism, reducing the required number of parts and resulting in cost savings.

After determining that the protective cover (used to prevent contact with hot machine parts) did not require a magnetic catch due to infrequent opening and closing, we proposed utilizing our HG-MPS2 mini detent hinge.
The hinge can hold the cover at multiple angles. Combining the functionalities of two products into one reduced the number of parts and costs. Furthermore, the hinges' easy installation and removal improve maintainability.

"Click mechanism" enables hinge holding function

The HG-MPS2 model has a “click mechanism.”
This is a mechanism in which two balls rotate in a circular rail that has an indentation for each ball. When the hinge swings in a direction, the balls travel around the rail until the balls drop into the indentations on the rail. This stops the hinge from moving and temporarily holds it in place.
It is easy to tell if the balls are inside the indentations by the distinctive “click” sound made when the mechanism engages.
