LID SUPPORTS AND SMALL CABINET SYSTEMS

About Lid Supports & Small Cabinet Systems

Think of overhead baggage compartments on aeroplanes that remain open while passengers load their belongings into them. Or car boots that don’t drop unexpectedly, risking injury. Or lids and doors on lab equipment and production machinery that hold position while technicians load delicate materials into them.

For improved access, for safety, for convenience, Sugatsune’s lid and cabinet door supports are suitable for use in a broad range of industrial applications across verticals. And as with most of our products, we look beyond the basics of holding a lid or door open to deliver extra functionality, creating premium multi-purpose solutions for our customers.

A conventional stay comprises two connected arms and is used to either hold a door or lid in position at a certain angle, or else to restrict its opening range. With our typical flair for adding value to standard component concepts, Sugatsune’s range of stays provides features such as soft close and lift assist, incorporating friction, tension and gas spring mechanisms to achieve smooth, controlled, effortless motion even for the heaviest of applications.

And while stays are traditionally used for vertical-opening lids and flaps, we extend our solutions to work in a range of directions for multiple lid and flap types.

SWING DOWN STAY
Types of Stay

Lid stays

Sugatsune manufactures standard lid stays which open in three directions – top opening, upward opening and swing door – with some products suitable for more than one. All of our stays lock and/or hold in the fully open position, with options for multi-angle locking available. Release is either via a light push from the fully open position, a safety lock/button or slide release. All of our standard lid stays are deployed either singly or in pairs.

Soft closing stays

Our extensive range of soft close stays are fitted with Sugatsune’s patented Lapcon damper technology. With products available for every type and direction of opening, Sugatsune delivers superior operability and safety wherever flaps, lids and cabinet doors are needed in the workplace.

Lift assist stays

Our lift assist stays use a spring tension mechanism to help open heavy top-opening lids with the application of just a small amount of force. All stays of this type have been endurance tested for a minimum of 10,000 open/close cycles. We have products that can be mounted either to the side or back panel of a unit.

Torque stays

Our free stop torque stays provide complete hold in any open position. They are available for top, upward, downward opening and swing doors and all products have passed a minimum of 20,000 open/close cycles.

Foot stays

Foot stays are bottom-mounted hold solutions for swing-opening cabinet doors. They are designed to lock in a variety of open positions and are released with the foot by lifting the mechanism upwards.

Heavy duty locking stays

For additional safety for heavier lids and doors, we manufacture a range of locking door supports that have to be manually unlocked using either a grip or a wire pull mechanism.

Opening Direction

Ours stay and support solutions are available for 10 different opening types and directions, as follows:

  • Top-opening: The motion of a conventional lid, opening in an arc from hinges at the back of the unit.
  • Downward-opening: A vertical panel opening in an arc downwards from hinges at the base.
  • Upwards-opening: A side panel opening in an arc upwards from hinges at the top.
  • Bottom-opening: The base of a unit opening in an arc from hinges at the back.
  • Swing door: The motion of a conventional door, opening in an arc laterally from hinges at the side of the unit.
  • Lift-up: A slide mechanism for vertical panels to open straight upwards, with no arc.
  • Lift-down: A slide mechanism for vertical panels to open straight downwards, with no arc.
  • Up & over: An additional motion to lift-up opening, where the vertical panel also pivots to rest horizontally partially over the top panel.
  • Over the top: As with up & over, the vertical panel lifts straight up and then pivots, but in this case rests fully over the top panel.
  • Bi-folding: Describes a vertical panel folding laterally as it opens upwards.
